Nathan C. ShermanI don't know how many times I've closed the repo tab instead of the submodule. If you decide *not* to do this, at least stop renaming the repo tab to the submodule name.

BenMackGitFork has this feature and it's much much more intuitive than Kraken approach. I have to working concurrently on multiple submodules and this is a big reason why I haven't switch to GitKraken yet

daniel MergedCurrent behavior:
* User can Initialize an existing submodule on a repo from Submodules pane
* User can update/edit/delete and open once the submodule has been cloned
* User can not open the module on a new tab and keep parent repository opened on a different tab.
** After open a submodule, current tab is opening selected submodule on current tab, not letting the user browse parent repo or other submodules hanging from parent repo.
Desired functionality:
* once the submodule is initialized in a parent repo, provide in the "submodules" menu an additional "open (submodule) in a new tab" button.
** After clicking, parent repo, previously opened submodule and potentially more submodules, are opened in dedicated tabs, letting the user operate them as independent repos.
** when opening a submodule in a new tab, it's ok if traceability with parent repo is lost, since the goal here is just being able to open and operate submodules just as "another regular git repo" -

JonI do agree that this would be a good feature, but realistically, why can't you just open the sobmodule in a new tab by just clicking the plus icon on the tabs bar?
It would be a nice shortcut feature though! -

O.HThat is something I really need, It is very annoying to open a submodule to see that it opens in the same tab of your main repo.
